Pro Tropenholz

Timber as a raw material is an excellent natural resource. Wood is found everywhere in the modern world and is widely used in the construction industry, for energy, furniture, interior decoration, and ship and boat building.

Timber from tropical forests in particular is attractive because of its beautiful grain and outstanding qualities such as durability. Protection of the forests and their sustainable use is not a contradiction. Quite the contrary: only a sensible and sustainable use of forest regions worldwide safeguards the survival of valuable protected areas.

What is IG Pro Tropenholz?

IG Pro Tropenholz is an association of traditional timber importers who have traded in timber for generations and have shared interests. Environmental organisations are often rash in blaming these importers for their continued logging of tropical forests.

Quite the opposite is true! Once the forests have been logged, the trade has lost the basis of its livelihood. No serious importer or distributor is interested in senseless destruction. Individuals and organisations of the group Pro Tropenholz would like their voices to be heard, and to point out the true causes of unproductive logging.

IG Pro Tropenholz is engaged in responsible and sustainable use of the natural resources. We would like to reveal here the beauty of the timbers and explain how these forest regions can be maintained.

Only sensible and renewable use of this precious raw material will protect the ecosystems of the tropics.
